WHRH 005 | Funding your Band's Tour: Fan Funding and Hard Choices [ 53:47 ] Play Now | Play in Popup | Download
I got a question from a band, The Silver Comet, that is trying to figure out ways to fund their 40 or more dates on the Warped Tour. Blasko and I spent this entire episode brainstorming ways this band can get money as well as dispelling some myths.
In this podcast:
- For a nation-wide tour, you need to have a plan beyond just the tour itself
- The Warped Tour is just the beginning to your promotion strategy.
- Some honest feedback about Angel Investors and Sponsorships
- To go on extended tours, you need to know your expenses and make hard choices.
- The size of your fan base determines the success of your fan funding.
- You need a website for your sales campaign.
- A GREAT promotional idea for this band (or your band). You have to listen to this.
- Some drawbacks to using Kickstarter
Also, some resources mentioned in this episode:
- Another State of Mind
- Get in the Van by Henry Rollins
- The Road (A Book by Touring Musicians)
- Tour:Smart by Martin Atkins
And if you enjoyed this podcast…
We’d love it if you could rate our show on iTunes. Five stars makes us feel good!

Just a side note, there is a crowdfunding site for touring bands, although I don’t believe it’s open quite yet: http://www.gigfunder.com/
Cool! I’ll check it out!
Still, as Blasko mentioned, if you don’t have the fan base, crowdfunding won’t help you much. If you can get featured on Hypebot with your unique crowdfunding experiment, now that’s a different story. :)

Very true…without the fanbase crowdfunding will not be of much help. I wish more artists understood this. Not just about ‘crowdfunding’, but for their career as a whole.
